Camp DayDreams 2008

Ahhh, good job, good, good, good, huh!

Camp DayDreams 2008 is in the books and it was great. I start feeling like a broken record saying that every year is the best yet, but I think we just keep getting better. This was a great camp, it really was the best yet. Larry returned to camp for this third year as the unit leader for the 10 year old boys, and I continued in my role as assistant director in my seventh year at camp. It was a fun week! Great kids, great staff, and fantastic weather- an unbeatable combination. We wondered some if we were going to be able to get into camp 110% with everything else going on for us right now. After an all-night packing session to move out of our condo and leave Colorado we arrived in Rochester more than a little tired. Once we arrived at Camp Cutler (host site for Camp DayDreams), we entered into the camp zone, and the camp magic took over.

Highlights for me included being able to spend more time playing with the kids- biking, fishing, archery, swimming, and going down the "slip and slide" over and over. As has become customary, I also fully enjoyed having a captive audience for my jokes. There was even a contest for the best laughter at my jokes during one of the all camp evening activities. I would tell a joke to each cabin group and they would literally fall down laughing. Very amusing to watch. There is a slide show of pictures to look at, see below to access.

The kids had big smiles on their faces and loved their time at camp. We had new campers learn to swim, learn to bike, see deer for the first time, and fish for the first time. Returning campers led songs, cheers, and came ready to participate at their favorite activities.

The staff were great to be with and their commitment to the kids was awe inspiring. Each person has his or her own unique way to connect with the kids and give of themselves. It is truly an amazing week to experience and words just can't do it justice.
